OPEN MRI, With “Wide Open Spaces”^® Our OPEN MRI is open on three sides. In fact, it is so open that the patient slides under the magnet sideways.  This OPEN configuration gives a comfortable feeling and insures completion of an excellent scan.  Music can be provided by headphones and the patient is encouraged to bring in a favorite CD or tape.  In most instances a family member or friend can accompany the patient into the scan room.

This OPEN MRI has a super conducting magnet which is three times as powerful as our previous OPEN MRI and gives high field quality. This higher magnetic strength allows for much higher resolution and faster scans, while retaining the outstanding OPEN configuration that has become the hallmark of OPEN MRI at Lexington Diagnostic center.

High Field Ultra Short Bore MRI

This High Field scanner is unique in that it has a very large opening that is flared at both ends, and more importantly, the magnet bore is only 3 feet in length, about half the length of the traditional tube type MRI. The large opening also accommodates large and claustrophobic patients. Because of the OPEN Flair and ultra short gantry configuration many patients with claustrophobia are able to be scanned in this very fast and high quality scanner. In addition, the High Field MRI can accommodate many patients weighing up to 550 pounds, making it a truly Texas-Sized MRI.^®

Breast MRI now recommended annually by the American Cancer Society and the American College of Radiology in High Risk Patients

Women at high risk for Breast Cancer include:

• Women who have BRCA1 or BRCA2 genetic defects or 1st degree relatives with those defects
• Women who have a personal history of breast cancer or who have 1st degree relatives with breast cancer.
• Women who have had radiation therapy to the chest between ages 10 and 30 for lymphoma or leukemia. 
• Women with a new diagnosis of breast cancer in one breast to determine if there is cancer in the other breast.
• Women who have cancer in an axillary lymph gland with out obvious primary.
• Women who have very dense breasts.
• Women who have breast implants.

The recommendations for all other patients not at high risk is to continue to have annual mammograms and do self examinations.

New MRI test for Prostate Cancer

New iCAD® VividLook® software analysis of contrast enhanced MRI of prostate gives evidence of abnormal cancer enhancement and location.

This test is performed as a Pelvis MRI with and without contrast.  It does not require a rectal probe or a bowel prep.  See Prostate Tests section for more information.
